Is Factor Momentum More than Stock Momentum?

Yes, but only at short lags. In this paper we investigate the relationship between factor momentum and stock momentum. Using a sample of 72 factors documented in the literature, we first replicate earlier findings that factor momentum exists and works both directionally and cross-sectionally. We then ask if factor momentum is spanned by stock momentum. A simple spanning test reveals that after controlling for stock m

Not All Factors Crowd Equally: Modeling, Measuring, and Trading on Alpha Decay

We derive a specific functional form for factor alpha decay -- hyperbolic decay alpha(t) = K/(1+lambda*t) -- from a game-theoretic equilibrium model, and test it against linear and exponential alternatives. Using eight Fama-French factors (1963--2024), we find: (1) Hyperbolic decay fits mechanical factors. Momentum exhibits clear hyperbolic decay (R^2 = 0.65), outperforming linear (0.51) and exponential (0.61) baseli

Testing for the Minimum Mean-Variance Spanning Set

This paper explores the estimation and inference of the minimum spanning set (MSS), the smallest subset of risky assets that spans the mean-variance efficient frontier of the full asset set. We establish identification conditions for the MSS and develop a novel procedure for its estimation and inference. Our theoretical analysis shows that the proposed MSS estimator covers the true MSS with probability approaching 1

Capital Asset Pricing Model with Size Factor and Normalizing by Volatility Index

The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) relates a well-diversified stock portfolio to a benchmark portfolio. We insert size effect in the CAPM, capturing the observation that small stocks have higher risk and return than large stocks, on average. Our goal is to make the resulting linear regressions have independent identically distributed Gaussian residuals. In some cases, we find that including the Volatility Index a

Momentum and liquidity in cryptocurrencies

The goal of this paper is to explore the relationship between momentum effects and liquidity in cryptocurrency markets. Portfolios based on momentum-liquidity bivariate sorts are formed and rebalanced on a varying number of cryptocurrencies through time. We find a strong momentum effect in the most liquid cryptocurrencies, which supports the theories of investor herding behavior. Moreover, we propose two profitable l

Are multi-factor Gaussian term structure models still useful? An empirical analysis on Italian BTPs

In this paper, we empirically study models for pricing Italian sovereign bonds under a reduced form framework, by assuming different dynamics for the short-rate process. We analyze classical Cox-Ingersoll-Ross and Vasicek multi-factor models, with a focus on optimization algorithms applied in the calibration exercise. The Kalman filter algorithm together with a maximum likelihood estimation method are considered to f

Corporate Bond Yield Curve Modeling: A Rating-Based Regime-Switching Generalized CIR Approach

Persistent shifts in term-structure dynamics undermine the stability of single-regime models in long samples. We develop an arbitrage-free regime-switching generalized CIR (RS-GCIR) model that jointly prices the Chinese government bond (CGB) curve and corporate bond curves. To capture the systematic transmission from interest-rate conditions to credit spreads, we structure the model into two blocks and price corporat

Credit Spreads' Term Structure: Stochastic Modeling with CIR++ Intensity

This paper introduces a novel stochastic model for credit spreads. The stochastic approach leverages the diffusion of default intensities via a CIR++ model and is formulated within a risk-neutral probability space. Our research primarily addresses two gaps in the literature. The first is the lack of credit spread models founded on a stochastic basis that enables continuous modeling, as many existing models rely on fa

Liquidity Stress Testing in Asset Management -- Part 1. Modeling the Liability Liquidity Risk

This article is part of a comprehensive research project on liquidity risk in asset management, which can be divided into three dimensions. The first dimension covers liability liquidity risk (or funding liquidity) modeling, the second dimension focuses on asset liquidity risk (or market liquidity) modeling, and the third dimension considers asset-liability liquidity risk management (or asset-liability matching). The

Order Splitting and Liquidity Replenishment Are Jointly Necessary for the Square-Root Law of Market Impact:

Three quantitative predictions have been advanced for the square-root law (SRL) of market impact, $I/σ_D = c\,(Q/V_D)^δ$ with $δ\approx 0.5$: GGPS ($δ=β-1$), FGLW ($δ=α-1$), and LOB walking ($δ=1/(1+γ)$). Using a minimal limit-order-book model populated by heterogeneous interacting agents and calibrated against the Tokyo Stock Exchange benchmark ($\langleδ\rangle = 0.489$~\citep{satoStrictUniversalitySquareRoot2025})

Herding and Liquidity in Order-Book Markets. I. A Robust Liquidity-Stress Crossover and its Reflexive Mechanism

Agent-based models of markets readily produce emergent instabilities, but telling a genuine collective effect apart from a parameter artefact takes discipline. We apply Bouchaud's phase-diagram method to a continuous-double-auction order-book model. The method is to map the full phase diagram, test its robustness to rule changes, and rule out degenerate and numerical origins before we call any feature a tipping point

Data-Driven Duration Management -- Term Structure Forecasting Using Machine Learning

This paper compares different methods for forecasting the term structure of U.S. and European zero-coupon government bonds using both traditional econometric and Machine Learning (ML) approaches. We compare classical models (e.g., Dynamic Nelson-Siegel (DNS) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA)) with different Neural Network (NN) architectures, including those inspired by the classical models, on the U.S. Treasury

The Privacy Subsidy in Market Microstructure

Privacy-preserving exchange designs price on a coarsened view of order flow. We show that a market maker committed to informationally efficient (posterior-mean) pricing on a signal strictly coarser than the flow it settles necessarily cedes a closed-form welfare transfer to traders -- the privacy subsidy -- and that no rule restricted to the coarse signal is simultaneously efficient and zero-profit against the settle

Quality-Adjusted Hit-Ratio Targeting in Corporate Bond Market Making

Hit ratio is a common service metric for electronic corporate bond market making, but raw hit-ratio targets can be economically misleading when client flow has heterogeneous adverse-selection content. This paper extends a stochastic-control framework for OTC bond RFQ market making with hit-ratio constraints by replacing raw hit ratio with a residual-quality-adjusted hit ratio. The key modelling distinction is that ad

Optimal Signal Extraction from Order Flow: A Matched Filter Perspective on Normalization and Market Microstructure

We establish a general matched filter principle for order flow normalization: optimal normalization must match the scaling behaviour of the signal-generating process. For capacity-constrained institutional investors, market capitalization normalization ($S^{MC}$) is the matched filter; for volume-targeting traders (e.g., VWAP/TWAP algorithms), trading value normalization ($S^{TV}$) is optimal. Monte Carlo simulations

Interpretable Deep Learning for Stock Returns: A Consensus-Bottleneck Asset Pricing Model

We introduce the Consensus-Bottleneck Asset Pricing Model (CB-APM), which embeds aggregate analyst consensus as a structural bottleneck, treating professional beliefs as a sufficient statistic for the market's high-dimensional information set. Unlike post-hoc explainability approaches, CB-APM achieves interpretability-by-design: the bottleneck constraint functions as an endogenous regularizer that simultaneously impr

Deep Learning for Conditional Asset Pricing Models

We propose a new pseudo-Siamese Network for Asset Pricing (SNAP) model, based on deep learning approaches, for conditional asset pricing. Our model allows for the deep alpha, deep beta and deep factor risk premia conditional on high dimensional observable information of financial characteristics and macroeconomic states, while storing the long-term dependency of the informative features through long short-term memory

Statistical modeling of SOFR term structure

SOFR derivatives market remains illiquid and incomplete so it is not amenable to classical risk-neutral term structure models which are based on the assumption of perfect liquidity and completeness. This paper develops a statistical SOFR term structure model that is well-suited for risk management and derivatives pricing within the incomplete markets paradigm. The model incorporates relevant macroeconomic factors tha
