Do Mutual Funds Make Active and Skilled Liquidity Choices in Portfolio Management? Evidence from India

This study examines active liquidity management by Indian open-ended equity mutual funds. We find that fund managers respond to inflows by increasing cash holdings, which are later used to purchase less-liquid stocks at favourable valuations. Funds with less liquid portfolios tend to maintain larger cash reserves to manage flows. Funds that make active liquidity choices yield statistically and economically significan

Residual Supply and the Price of Risk Absorption

When redeeming open-end funds sell and natural buyers do not step in at once, some limited-capital investor must take the other side and carry the inventory until prices recover. This paper asks what return that investor requires. A continuous-time market-clearing model delivers an expected-return restriction in which the price of residual supply depends on inventory risk, trading costs, funding frictions, and the sc

Stochastic Attention via Langevin Dynamics on the Modern Hopfield Energy

Attention heads retrieve: given a query, they return a weighted average of stored values. We showed that this computation is one step of gradient descent on the modern Hopfield energy, and that Langevin sampling from the corresponding Boltzmann distribution yielded stochastic attention, a training-free sampler controlled by a single temperature parameter. Lowering the temperature gave exact retrieval; raising it gave

Shai: A large language model for asset management

This paper introduces "Shai" a 10B level large language model specifically designed for the asset management industry, built upon an open-source foundational model. With continuous pre-training and fine-tuning using a targeted corpus, Shai demonstrates enhanced performance in tasks relevant to its domain, outperforming baseline models. Our research includes the development of an innovative evaluation framework, which

Predicting Mutual Funds' Performance using Deep Learning and Ensemble Techniques

Predicting fund performance is beneficial to both investors and fund managers, and yet is a challenging task. In this paper, we have tested whether deep learning models can predict fund performance more accurately than traditional statistical techniques. Fund performance is typically evaluated by the Sharpe ratio, which represents the risk-adjusted performance to ensure meaningful comparability across funds. We calcu

Tri-criterion model for constructing low-carbon mutual fund portfolios: a preference-based multi-objective genetic algorithm approach

Sustainable finance, which integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria on financial decisions rests on the fact that money should be used for good purposes. Thus, the financial sector is also expected to play a more important role to decarbonise the global economy. To align financial flows with a pathway towards a low-carbon economy, investors should be able to integrate in their financial decision

Efficient Pricing of CPPI using Markov Operators

Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance (CPPI) is a strategy designed to give participation in a risky asset while protecting the invested capital. Some gap risk due to extreme events is often kept by the issuer of the product: a put option on the CPPI strategy is included in the product. In this paper we present a new method for the pricing of CPPIs and options on CPPIs, which is much faster and more accurate than t
