Lift the Offer
To lift the offer is to buy the posted ask — aggressive demand that pays the spread for immediacy.
Definition
Lifting (or taking) the offer crosses to buy. Dealers say a name was ‘lifted through’ when successive offers are taken and the ask walks higher. It is the buy-side twin of hitting the bid.
Why it matters
A lift streak is the microstructure of a squeeze or a squeeze-in-waiting. Paper that only looks at last price misses who paid for speed.
Case
A gamma-hedging bid that lifts calls and then lifts the underlying is two lifts in a row — vol and delta both demanding immediacy.
How to read it
Size versus displayed size. Lifting 1 lot means nothing. Lifting the whole stack means the offer was a teaser.
