Alpha Cloning — Following 13F Filings
Copy (with a lag) the disclosed long holdings of selected 13F filers — a delayed clone of someone else’s book.
Definition
Pick a set of ‘skilled’ filers, wait for the 45-day 13F, overweight their new or concentrated longs, underweight exits. You are late by construction. Shorts and intra-quarter trades are invisible.
Why it matters
It is a popular alternative-data toy. The lag and the long-only bias are the product limits.
Case
A famous hedge fund dumps a name on day 2 of the quarter; you buy it on day 45 from the filing. You bought the exit.
How to read it
Filer selection (that is the alpha), lag, and turnover. Cloning a crowded multi-manager pod is not a thesis.
No query has been run yet. Which is tragically normal for most knowledge systems, but we are trying to evolve past decorative databases.
