Quantamental / Fundamental-Overlay CTA
A price-based engine with a fundamental veto or tilt — inventories, COT, positioning, or nowcasts that can cut or flip a trend.
Definition
Trend proposes; inventory or positioning disposes. Example: do not stay long a commodity in deep inventory glut even if the MA is up. Or: fade COT extremes. The overlay is a second model with its own error.
Why it matters
It is how specialists stop being ‘dumb trend’ into a well-telegraphed glut. It is also how they miss a squeeze the inventory file did not believe.
Case
A squeeze that the stock data said was impossible. Pure trend stayed long; the overlay cut. The tape was the inventory.
How to read it
Which series, lag, and whether the overlay can only cut size or also flip sign. A flip is a different product.
